On October 8th, obstacle race Spartan Race releases a statement about Jen Rosant, a Spartan Racer and Gaspari Nutrition Team Captain who had been diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and found comfort in competing in intense Spartan Races.
According to Spartan representative Carrie Adams, Jen Rosant is a 35-year-old New Jersey native and captain of Gaspari Nutrition’s Team Braveheart. Adams states, “I know Jen personally and she is one of the most remarkable women I’ve ever met. A survivor in every sense of the word, a motivator of the masses, and a living embodiment of the best of what Spartan is about.” According to Adams, ten years ago Rosant had been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. After undergoing surgery, Rosant received news revealing that she had developed Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), which is the scarring, swelling and destruction of the bile ducts both around and inside the liver. After receiving treatment for two years, Rosant remarkably did not need a liver transplant.
Despite her journey, Rosant states that she “has never felt better or been in better shape”. In addition, Rosant had commented that she is “able to do upwards of 35 events in one year.” Regardless of her hardships, Rosant is delighted to a part of Team Braveheart and to compete in Spartan Races. “I cannot even begin to explain the impact that Spartan Race has created for Team Braveheart,” Rosant states.
Rosant has come a long way, especially for someone who underwent IVs of chemotherapy within the last two years. Rosant’s motivational strength is an inspiration to Spartan Race. In addition, Rosant feels encouraged by the obstacle race, stating, “I promise you this, you will see Team Braveheart again, you will see them at many of your events, but next year’s Tri-State you better get us a bigger tent, I plan on bringing 100+ Bravehearts with a larger drive than this year.”
