David J. Dykeman, a shareholder, registered patent attorney, and co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Intellectual Property Department in the Boston office, will be a featured speaker at AdvaMed 2012:The MedTech Conference, October 1 - 3, 2012 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, MA.
On Wednesday, October 3 from 2:15 - 3:30 p.m., Dykeman will present “Prometheus Supreme Court Decision Places Diagnostics Patents at Risk.” Dykeman will moderate a panel of medical technology experts to discuss strategies and best practices for developing strong patent portfolios in the wake of the landmark Prometheus decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on March 20, 2012. The panelists include: Omar Amirana, M.D. of Allied Minds; Amy F. Mendel, Esq. of ZIOPHARM Oncology; and Michael C. Schiffer, Esq. of Beckman Coulter. Attendees will gain valuable insights on: (1) best practices for filing strong patent applications to protect a company’s current core technology and future improvements; (2) compare and contrast the European and US approaches to diagnostic claims; and (3) impact on financing of diagnostic and medtech companies.
A registered patent attorney with over 15 years of experience in patents, intellectual property, and licensing, Dykeman’s practice focuses on securing strategic worldwide intellectual property protection and related business strategy for high-tech clients, with particular expertise in medical devices, life sciences, biotechnology and healthcare IT. Dykeman serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), and on the Editorial Advisory Board of Medical Device + Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI) Magazine.
