I sat in Joan Thomson’s office for 30 days to learn the system and to listen to her wisdom. It was the most magnificent experience to get to sit and learn from one of the best in the business.

A move to South Florida 12 years ago and an eventual change in careers helped Jacki Ojakian find her true love: selling real estate for Waterfront Properties and Club Communities, where she recently ranked among the top 10 Realtors in northern Palm Beach County for resales.
A No. 1 agent in luxury Palm Beach Gardens homes for sale, Ojakian said the niche-realty company based in Jupiter made it possible for her to soar to new heights.
“I’m very fortunate,” the former interior decorator said. “I like their level of business. In an area like this, I truly believe the boutique companies do the best.”
Ojakian can cite the exact number of homes in each of her three territories -- Frenchman’s Reserve, Mirasol and San Michele -- as well as name their different floorplans, residential subdivisions and country-club amenities, without blinking an eye. She knows every piece of equipment in the Frenchman’s Reserve fitness center, the daily list of events at the Grand Clubhouse in Mirasol and the name of every street in San Michele.
“Jacki is inexhaustible,” said Rob Thomson, Waterfront Properties’ managing partner. “Between her work ethic and her business ethic, it was a no-brainer to hire her.”
Ojakian left a national real-estate firm to join Waterfront Properties even though she was unsure about the concept of specialized sales. She made a point to learn everything she could about the business strategy.
“I sat in Joan Thomson’s office for 30 days to learn the system and to listen to her wisdom,” Ojakian said about the founder of the company. “It was the most magnificent experience to get to sit and learn from one of the best in the business.”
Statistics show Ojakian has mastered the craft. She’s in her 11th year with Waterfront Properties and might stay another 11 years.
“Rob is a great leader,” she said. “He’s brilliant in this business. I feel really fortunate that I am working at Waterfront Properties and I have access to people like that.”
The noncompetitive environment among the company’s award-winning Realtors makes it easier to focus on the homes for sale and the interests of the buyers, Ojakian said.
“We don’t compete with each other,” she said. “We are a team. I call it my family team. We refer to each other. We help each other. It’s a fabulous way to do business.”
Making it to No. 1 – a feat she accomplished in earlier this year – wasn’t the only thing Ojakian has achieved. She has trotted the globe, attending the Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate Spring Retreat in Amsterdam and the Annual International Conference in Florence, Italy.
“What an eye-opener, meeting all these agents from all over the world,” she said.
Ojakian culled contacts from both conferences and put them to work for her by giving – and taking – referrals.
“What we’re trying to do by attending these conferences is we’re building a foundation to be the go-to people of South Florida,” she said. “We get much more business and we do many more deals because we are the go-to people. Clients know when you work at Waterfront Properties that you’re a strong agent. There isn’t another company that I’d want to work for.”
