...the four traits that can set them apart from other applicants in the IT world has nothing to do with their computer skills but are ‘soft skill’ traits: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication and problem solving.
Chambersburg, PA (PRWEB) October 04, 2012
Tapestry Technologies’ Patricia McDonald, Director of Training, gave a presentation on Thursday, September 27th, to the information technology (IT) students at York Technical Institute (YTI) at their Mechanicsburg campus. Mrs. McDonald described the nature of being a government contractor and their importance to our military and the U.S. Government. She also gave advice to students on how to prepare for their job interviews and encouraged them to participate in internship programs. Mrs. McDonald surprised attendees by stating that the four traits that can set them apart from other applicants in the IT world has nothing to do with their computer skills but are ‘soft skill’ traits: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. She closed with another recommendation for work experience advising students to seek out work experience even if it is through an unpaid internship or volunteer projects.
The tapestry internship program began in January of 2011 and it continues to evolve and grow. As an information technology (IT) security company, tapestry is heavily involved in the Government IT world as well as IT Security Training and commercial technology consulting and is anxious to pass on their knowledge to the up-and-coming generation.
