Molly Bear's provides weighted teddy bears for parents coping with infant loss

Molly Bears exists to create comfort for families coping with the loss of an infant, because no person should have to walk this journey alone.

Oak Harbor, Washington (PRWEB) October 03, 2012

Bridget Crews, the founder of Molly Bears, has been nominated for Yahoo!’s Women Who Shine campaign honoring the extraordinary in everyday women. Editor-in-chief of Yahoo! Shine, Jennifer Romolini, explains that the award honors women who are inspiring and making an impact in everyday life. The campaign already has thousands of entries contending for a $10,000 prize, but none with the singular story of Molly Bears.

Molly Bears started two years ago with the simple idea of bringing comfort and hope to people in the midst of tragedy. Bridget Crews had lost her own child catapulting her into the dark depths of devastation. Her arms felt listless without the 8lb weight of her infant daughter nestled safely from elbow to wrist. Bridget’s friend gave her a teddy bear to comfort her; It was similar to one she would had eventually given her daughter, Molly. Though cradling something in her arms once again helped, the teddy bear didn’t weigh enough to soothe her pain. In effort to have a bear that weighed the same as her sweet daughter, she bought a package of rice, a scale, and extra fabric. That night, she created the very first Molly Bear. For the first time in weeks, Bridget was able to sleep. It was then she knew she had to reach out and help others.

Molly Bears has since shipping over 1,500 bears to 50 states and 13 countries filling the empty arms of grieving families. Bridget Crews has tapped into something that can provide a modicum of comfort during times of extreme distress. Yet, though it has evolved, Molly Bears has struggled to keep up with demand. “The stark reality we face today as a company is that we do not have the funds available to keep up with the demand of bear production. We are now, like many months before, dangerously close to running out of funds“ said Bridget Crews.

Molly Bears exists to create comfort for families coping with the loss of an infant. In order for Molly Bears to continue to be a vital resource, they have turned to online fundraising. Through Rally.org, Molly Bears has connected with supporters around the country fundraising for Molly Bear’s future. Over 150 people are showing their gratitude for Bridget’s work, and Molly Bears, by helping to raise funds. In one way or another, these Fan Fundraisers have been touched by the magic of a Molly Bear and believe in it’s ability to bring and warmth to otherwise listless arms.

Bridget Crews has made this happen and hopes to do much more — A Molly Bear in every set of empty arms, because no person should have to walk this journey alone.
