The producers of In Focus with Martin Sheen are pleased to announce an upcoming series of reports on a number of rare disorders that are impacting millions of Americans.

In Focus with Martin Sheen is an independently produced television program airing in markets around the country on public television. In Focus Martin Sheen explores several topics that are important to Americans including education and medical issues. In Focus is hosted by the legendary Martin Sheen. Over the last half century, Mr. Sheen has become a fixture of American entertainment. He has also used his visible position to be an outspoken advocate for many important issues.

Today, nearly 30 million Americans are facing any of approximately 7,000 rare diseases and disorders. A disease is classified as rare if it affects less than 200,000 people. Many of the victims of these diseases can find it difficult to locate others suffering in the same way because of the low incidence of these diseases, and organizations like the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is helping to bring these people together. In Focus PBS will be exploring some of these rare diseases and how victims are finding hope in new research.
