In an effort to encourage disability awareness among students, Social Security Disability Help is hosting their first ever New England Disability Awareness Essay Contest.

Social Security Disability Help (http://www.socialsecurity-disability.org), an informational website focused on the Social Security Disability Program, is hosting its first ever New England Disability Awareness Essay Contest. The contest is part of an effort to encourage disability awareness among children.

The contest is open to children in grades two through six. To enter, students must write an essay describing how someone with a disability has inspired them. Essays should be no longer than 500 words and must be submitted to http://www.socialsecurity-disability.org/contest/newengland-essay by October 31st, 2012. Along with the student’s essay, Social Security Disability Help requests that participants include their age, city, state, and parent or guardian’s contact information.

Five first place winners will each be rewarded with the chance to donate $250 to the charity of their choosing and a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card. Five second place winners will each receive a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card and lastly, five third place winners will each receive a $15 Barnes and Noble gift card. The winning essays will be posted on the Social Security Disability Help blog.

Social Security Disability Help aims to inform people of the SSD benefits that are available to them and provides them with free evaluations of their disability claim. In addition to these services, Social Security Disability Help writes and distributes articles to outside organizations that wish to provide information about applying for Social Security Disability on their websites.
