The #95 AutoMotionTV Mazda finished 3rd after starting from the back during the National Championship race at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Driver Ben Anderson made a charge to 4th during the first lap and finished 3rd fighting an ailing motor on lap 2. The #95 Mazda entered the championship race optimistic. Anderson turned a 1:39.6 lap time in race warmup – the fastest lap of the week. “While I’m disappointed the motor had issues on lap 2, we showed our pace early on,” Anderson stated. “What a great effort by the team to fix oil issues earlier in the weekend so the car could make the race”.
After the green flag flew, Anderson made a deep dive pass on the outside of turn 7, making it stick as the race cars climbed “Madness” (turn 8). Anderson needed a half lap more to make the pass on another RX8 for 4th position. Anderson caught the lead pack one lap later, sitting only 2.5 seconds behind the 1st place car. Unfortunately, motor issues related to spiking oil temps, preventing Anderson from staying with competitors down Mid Ohio’s straights. Despite the loss of horsepower, the #95 Mazda battled with the 3rd place car, gaining in the braking zones and losing down the straights. Anderson made the pass for 3rd after continuous pressure from behind resulted in a competitor’s spin. “Again this year, mobile apps were a part of our program.
