Kaminski Auctions presents its fall 20th Century Decorative Arts sale featuring exceptional Mid-Century art, art glass, and Danish modern furniture from the collection of Lorraine Graham Morss, significant 20th C. fine art from a recently unsealed 40 years in-the-making private Boston collection, and a range of exciting objects from the last quarter of the 20th C. from various private California collections.

I think collectors and dealers will be pleased to find this sale is especially heavy on artwork, and is specifically focused on mid-century works from the period of the early 1950's to early 1960's. Nathan Russell, Kaminski Modern Specialist

Lorraine Graham Morss and her first husband Dr. Kenneth M. Graham furnished their homes in the early 1960's with an assortment of high quality Danish modern furniture which will be included in the sale: Twelve Hans Wegner"Wishbone" armchairs, and matching table, a fine Arne Jacobsen "Swan" leather chair, a Paul Mc Cobb low chest, as well as a half dozen other high quality Danish case pieces, including a fantastic pair of finger-jointed shelving units by Soborg Mobler.

The Grahams also purchased many original modernist artworks, which will be featured in the sale. Standouts include works by Laurence Sisson, Manubu Mabe, and Robert Bliss. Also included from her collection are wonderful examples of art glass, including a wide assortment of Stueben figurals, and three lots of Venini art glass.

Sculpture highlights from other consignors include two large mid-century mixed metal sculptures by Irving Lehman, a striking large bronze plaque by Aubrey Schwartz, and a spectacular large scale bronze by David Aronson. There is also a bronze sculpture by Nicolaus Friedrich (German, 1865-1914), "Amazon Fastening Her Sandal", bronze sculpture, signed, 1909, standing 13 1/5" in height and an exceptional modern Lucite zebra sculpture, both estimated at $4000-$6000.

Art glass highlights include a number of fine large scale Murano table lamps, Murano Aquarium blocks, Barbini art glass, and three lots of significant Blenko one-of-a kind experimental designer art glass. These include a group of three Wayne Husted "Swedish" design crystal vases from the early 1960's, the holygrail of Blenko.

Interior designers and modern furniture collectors will swoon over the Vladimir Kagan red upholstered serpentine sofa on offer estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Valdimir Kagan came to the United States in 1938, studied Architecture at Columbia University and became one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century. With a career spanning over sixty years his furniture creations have become icons of modern design.

Two Dennis Akervik Coehlo(American, b. 1968), paintings lots 4428 and 4429, one untitled and the other “Sunset Over Provincetown” valued at $10,000-$18,000 and $6000-$12,000 respectively leads off the fine art entries in the sale and an important Sam Francis (American, 1923-1994), "Trietto #6", abstract, aquatint, valued at $10,000-$15,000.
There is also an Emile Nolde (French, 1867-1956), watercolor of tulips , signed Nolde, with various labels verso including Sotheby's PB84 estimated at $5000-$8000.

South American and Mexican artists include Manabu Mabe (Brazil/Japan, 1924-1997), an abstract oil on canvas, Byron Galves (Mexican, 1941-2009), three abstracted female figures, oil on canvas, Saturnino Herran (Mexican, 1887-1918), "Caballero Aguila", tinta en acuarela (ink and watercolor), signed and dated 1918 and Gerardo Chavez Lopez (Peruvian, b. 1937), "Mobimiento en Azul", an oil on canvas.

Other important entries in the sale include a two piece table by Mexican artist Feliciano Bejar, Rookwood and Marblehead pottery, sterling silver Arts and Crafts hollowware by Wallace and a Laura Ann Jacobs (American, b. 1960), "Blue Over You", glass over painted resin sculpture, an early piece, with a copy of her book. Laura Ann Jacobs work was recently featured in the New York Times, April 11th, 2012 in an article by Penelope Green.
