Fox 50 will once again present the Family Fest at the American Tobacco Campus on Oct. 7, which will include The Great American Tobacco Duck Race, all to raise money for selected charities. The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin will provide support by sponsoring the Duck Decorating Tent, where competitors can personalize their ducks and get them ready for the race.
The Family Fest will include a live animal showcase, field games and activities led by the YMCA, and other fun activities. The highlight of the festival, which drew over 5,000 people last year, is The Great American Tobacco Duck Race.
Thousands of people line up at the Ol’ Bull River to set their ducks off on the race. But before they begin, they can stop by the Duck Decorating Tent sponsored by the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin to paint and customize their ducks.
A Duck Decorating Contest will choose the best individual and corporate ducks, as determined by the applause from the audience. One lucky duck will be selected as the favorite by a panel of judges. Winners will receive prizes.
Individual ducks cost $10, and corporate ducks cost $250. Proceeds from the sale of the ducks will benefit Explorer Post 50, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and the Durham Literacy Center.
The race has raised over $130,000 for area charities since it started.
“We have really enjoyed sponsoring this event the past several years, and we are pleased to once again offer our support to help raise money for such worthy charities,” said Patent Attorney Tara Williams, who heads the social services committee at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.
Prizes for the best decorated ducks and the winners of the duck race will include tickets to see the Charlotte Bobcats take on the Miami Heat, tickets to see the Duke men’s basketball team play, tickets to a Broadway Show at the Durham Performing Arts Center, and more.
Family Fest is free, and it will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Ducks can be purchased and decorated between 1 and 3:30 p.m., and the Duck Decorating Contest will take place at 3:30. The race will kick off at 4 p.m.
Ducks can be purchased on the day of the race or online at http://www.familyfest.fox50.com.
