Fashion design is a talent that very few are able to fully master. A designer’s longevity in the fashion industry ultimately relies on his/her ability to seemingly adhere to seasonal standards, while also raising the bar—inviting onlookers to experience another realm of creativity and influence. As such, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to present the following designers (listed by presentation day/date):

Hosting each of the runway presentations at the Papillion Institute of Art (1835 South Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015), AFWLA is honored to feature such a diverse roster of talent for its inaugural production. It is through the brand’s partnerships, sponsorships and other dynamic business relationships that AFWLA’s intent will become magnified; ultimately shifting perceptions of Africa and African/African-American designers. The company’s kick-off mixer, held at Shade Hotel (1221 North Valley Drive) on Wednesday, October 10th (6-10pm), will present an awesome opportunity for industry leaders, celebrities, and welcomed guests, to mingle with the featured designers and the company’s media, beauty and hospitality sponsors.
LAMIK (http://www.lamik-beauty.com/) and Curls (http://www.curls.biz), two thriving beauty brands, have joined AFWLA as the production company’s beauty sponsors. LAMIK, AFWLA's official beauty sponsor, will create and produce bold looks for each runway presentation. Products from Curls, an award-winning hair care company, will be featured in all gift bags. AFWLA has also secured media partnerships with two LA-based entities: LA’RAW (http://www.rawwater.net/LaRawBlog/) and AfroStyle magazine (http://www.afrostylemag.com). Both magazines have an invested interest in matters affecting members of the diaspora in general, and African fashion in particular.
Tickets are still available for purchase via Eventbrite (http://www.afwla2012.eventbrite.com), where patrons can purchase a General Admission or VIP ticket for each day of presentations or for all three days (bundled options). A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go towards AFWLA’s non-profit beneficiary, MacDella Cooper Foundation. Please contact registration(at)afwla(dot)org for a discounted rate on group tickets.
