Seen everywhere from Madonna’s MDNA tour stage to backyards and parks across the country, the thrilling sport of slacklining is headed to Dayton, OH for the U.S. National Slackline Championships. For the second year in a row, the top 16 slackline athletes will compete at the Midwest Outdoor Experience where they will battle head-to-head for the title of National Champion 2012. Sponsored by Vibram USA, the competitions will take place on October 5 and 6, 2012 at the Eastwood Metropark. Throughout the weekend, an interactive area will be set up for attendees to try “walking the line” for themselves and the Gibbon Slacklines pros will be giving exciting highline demonstrations at the main stage.

“The Midwest Outdoor Experience is one of the leading festivals celebrating everything outdoors and we’re thrilled to bring the sport of slacklining back to Dayton,” said Emilio Torres, vice president of sales at Gibbon Slacklines. “The National Slackline Championships is slated to be one of our most exciting competitions yet and we look forward to showing even more people what this growing sport is all about.”

The competition will take place in three different rounds and the athletes will be judged on creativity, difficulty and performance. The competitions will take place on Friday, October 5 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, slacklining is the act of balancing along a narrow, flexible piece of webbing which is low to the ground and usually anchored between two trees. Slacklining has become a recent feature of Madonna’s current MDNA tour where three Gibbon athletes are performing with the Material Girl. NBC’s “The Office” also recently featured the sport during their season nine premiere episode.

Gibbon is the world’s leading slackline manufacturer and is rapidly building the sport with their top-level pro team and by hosting competitions across the U.S. Gibbon’s easy-to-use equipment makes the sport accessible for anyone, from athletes to families, and has evolved slacklining into a cross-trainer, backyard activity, fitness trend and sport all of its own.
