“It was well worth the time and energy to promote breast cancer awareness. It was a great time celebrating awareness, survival and friendship.”

St. Elizabeth Health Center is once again participating in the 2012 Pink Glove Dance Competition to promote breast cancer awareness.
The video will be posted on http://www.pinkglovedance.com on Oct.12, along with the videos of other participants. The public can vote on their favorite video (voting requires a Facebook® account). Voting ends Oct. 26.
The top three winners receive a donation in their name to the breast cancer charity of their choice. Winners will be announced Nov. 2 on pinkglovedance.com.
The second annual competition is sponsored by Medline Industries Inc., manufacturer of the gloves and producer of the original Pink Glove Dance video, which premiered in 2009 and featured 200 Portland, Ore., hospital workers wearing Medline’s pink gloves and dancing in support of breast cancer awareness and prevention.
Medline received hundreds of phone calls inquiring about participating in another video and decided to create a Pink Glove Dance video contest to benefit breast cancer awareness.
Fun for a Great Cause
“We had such a great time doing the video last year that we decided to do it every year,” said Linda Smith, St. Elizabeth Health Center clinical educator of surgical/perioperative services, and one of many organizers of the dance video.
Smith said approximately 50 staff, family members, cancer survivors and Panerathon participants had a hand in creating the video, which took about two months to complete.
“It was well worth the time and energy to promote breast cancer awareness,” Smith said. “And really, it is so much fun that it hardly seems like a big project ─ just a great time celebrating awareness, survival and friendship.”
