Informz, a leading email service provider for the association and nonprofit industries, released a case study on how the American Political Science Association (APSA) utilized the integration between their email platform and database to improve the targeting and relevancy of emails related to their annual Teaching and Learning Conference. Through the combination of demographic and behavioral data, APSA was able to create highly-targeted emails, increasing conference registration by 33%.

The case study highlights how APSA developed a strategic email campaign to promote their conference. By examining their audience and targeting subject lines based on demographics, APSA increased open rates by 17 percent and click-thru rates by 63 percent. By bringing in key information from their membership database, the association leveraged past activity and attributes of prospective registrants to highlight specific elements of the conference. The association approached their registration recruitment with a clear understanding of the value core groups gained from the conference as expressed in prior exit interviews and as aligned with their research areas.

The Informz platform enabled multiple departments to view results and work collaboratively to fine-tune subsequent communications to engage and convert potential registrants. At the completion of the email marketing campaign, APSA increased conference registration by 33 percent, increased first-time attendance to 51 percent, and expanded community college participation by 48 percent.

“It’s not enough to take a ‘batch and blast’ approach with your email marketing; relevant emails are critical to achieve noteworthy open and click-thru rates, ” said Joe Tyler, CEO of Informz. “This case study is a great example for other associations to understand the importance of customized email messaging and how it can affect an organization’s bottom line.”
