Sacramento Speakers Series Kicks Off their 2012-2013 Season October 23rd

The Sacramento Speakers Series showcases six evenings of topical insight from some of today's most influential figures.

The Sacramento Speakers Series, a community lecture series that showcases six evenings of topical insight from some of today's most influential figures, kicks off their 8th season on Tuesday, October 23rd. The first engagement brings Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN & practicing neurosurgeon, Sanjay Gupta, MD to the stage at the Community Center Theater in Downtown Sacramento.

On December 4th, the series presents a special evening with President Bill Clinton at the Memorial Auditorium. This will be a truly memorable evening as it falls immediately after the general election and before the inauguration.

On January 8th, internationally renowned author, reporter and New York Times columnist, Thomas Friedman speaks at the Community Center Theater.

On January 29th, Sacramento welcomes former Washington D.C. Public Schools Chancellor and founder of StudentsFirst, Michelle Rhee. Rhee is also a known leading advocate for education reform in America.

February 22nd brings Dr. Louise Leakey to Sacramento to share her insights as an acclaimed paleontologist, conservationist, educator and National Geographic Explorer-in-Resident. Studying human fossils in the Eastern African Region, Leakey became the youngest person to discover hominid fossils at six weeks old and is part of the third generation Leakey family, all known for helping to uncover humanity's past in East Africa.

On April 2nd, the Sacramento Speakers Series rounds out the season with Dr. Robert Ballard, most well-known for his historic discovery of the Titanic wreckage more than 12,000 feet below the North Atlantic Ocean's surface. Ballard is a former United States Navy officer and a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island.

Managing principal and attorney Mitchell Ostwald describes the series as “an extraordinary community experience that gives our patrons an opportunity to hear about and question renowned and influential people from a wide variety of backgrounds on an even wider variety of topics.” Come listen. The series will begin at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23rd. Doors open at 7:00 pm.
