Touchline Video, the specialist trade distributor, enters its twentieth year of promoting, designing and supporting video communication solutions in support of their UK channel partners in October 2012

Video communications is seen as a fast growing industry which reflects the worlds current need for flexible working, costs containment and carbon friendliness but the roots of the industry can be traced back a long way. One company, Touchline Video has been actively engaged in the industry for a remarkable 20 years.

Touchline Video MD, Barry Cross, remembers his first forays into the new and exciting world of video-conferencing in 1992-3. "We had engaged with Zydacron to design, install and support the provision of personal videoconferencing using plug-in cards and ISDN to the desktop using very limited bandwidths. These 'pioneering' days were the start of what has, so far, been a 20 year involvement in video-communications”

"This sector has always been changing and evolving" says Barry, "sometimes the pace has been slower, but there have been other times, like the last three or four years, when things have moved extremely quickly and you have to keep your eye on the ball to position yourself to meet the current and future demands of your customers"

"We recognised the importance of infrastructure some years ago and our current portfolio offers an exciting mixture of established vendors like Avaya/RADVISION, new players like ZTE and cloud-based service providers like"

"We have seen significant improvements in the quality of video communications over the years most recently with the increased availability of IP bandwidth, the delivery of HD quality video and audio, the arrival of the cloud and the support for mobile devices and, I have no doubt, there will be even more challenges and improvements in the future. For example, the integration of video with data and voice to create a unified communication environment is building momentum and is growing very quickly. Our video skills and experience are of significant value to both new and established resellers who are being drawn to this area”

“After 20 years, we'd like to thank our loyal channel partners and I can assure them that we will continue to deliver them great solutions, with comprehensive back-up and support, for many more years to come"
