It is 333AD. The young and beautiful Katherine lies dying within the ruins of one of Alexandria’s destroyed libraries. Three women and a Roman soldier try desperately to tend her injuries, but they know Katherine’s situation is hopeless; she has suffered horrific torture on a wheel of spikes.
The soldier, whose name goes unrecorded, finally sends the women away. Tearfully he breaks Katherine’s neck to end her suffering. ‘Jabal Ekatherina’, one of history’s most influential women, is dead at the age of 27.
KATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA expects to premier in Cyprus on the 25th November 2012, St Katherine’s day with worldwide release in early 2013.
This magnificently filmed epic carries a profound and calming message with appeal for cinema-goers of all cultural backgrounds. Undiscovered for centuries, Katherine of Alexandria’s beautiful diary and the story surrounding it demonstrates the passion, humility, wisdom and spirituality that touches heart and spirit. Katherine’s story tells us about love, fortitude and compassion for people, no matter what their religious beliefs are, and when hearts are touched, audiences are captured.
This is a stunning tale which tells a wonderful story based on real life events and strong characters. St Katherine, who stood valiantly against Rome’s pagan belief system to establish belief in ‘The One True God’, is unjustly executed. Constantine, the powerful Roman Emperor, who rose to greatness on the battlefield and expanded the mighty Roman Empire across three continents, tries in vain to save her.
This film extends far beyond simple entertainment precisely because it is based on actual historical events. At last the incredible story of Katherine of Alexandria is being brought to the big screen with a cast list of extraordinary British actors including Peter O’Toole (Lawrence of Arabia, Troy, Goodbye Mr Chips & Caligula, Brian Blessed (Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear & Black Adder), Joss Ackland (The Hunt for Red October, Lethal Weapon 2 & Bill & Teds Bogus Journey), Steven Berkoff (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, A Clockwork Orange & The Krays), Samantha Beckinsale (London’s Burning, Time after Time & Holby City), Dudley Sutton (Lovejoy, Eastenders & Emmerdale)
