Rolando Rosario Vasquez, Health System Director for Comprehensive Pharmacy Services and Sistema de Salud, was named Pharmacist of the Year by the The Pharmacist Association of Puerto Rico for 2012. Vasquez, a member of CFPR, was chosen for this award for his committment to improve the quality of life for patients through patent support activities within his organization and for his efforts to improve pharmacy practice outside of the workplace.
CPS’ Chief Executive Officer, Don Nickleson, said that Vasquez is very deserving of award and that he has always been passionate about his work and the patients he serves. Vasquez has been employed by CPS for 6 years and served as Director of Pharmacy Services before being named Health System Director in 2011. “Rolando came to work for CPS because he is committed to the advancement of quality pharmacy practice in Puerto Rico and improving the quality of care for the patients he serves,” said Nayda Ruiz, Regional Vice President, CPS, Puerto Rico.
As Health System Director for CPS, Vasquez is responsible for supervising Pharmacy Directors and helping to develop and implement strategies to maintain hospital pharmacy practice at a vanguard level. He also helps oversee budget, regulatory and compliance measures for the hospitals he supervises. Vasquez earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida and was named a board certified Psychiatric Pharmacist in 2007 by the Board of Hospital Specialties in Washington, DC.
