SLCC Offers New Health Information Technology Certificate Program

Salt Lake Community College now offers a Health Information Technology (Health IT) program. The new program is funded by a U.S. Department of Labor Community Trade Adjustment Assistance grant for workforce training.

This new program will prepare students for new jobs in the medical industry and offer career advancement and improved earning potential for those already working in the industry.

Salt Lake Community College now offers a Health Information Technology (Health IT) program. The program is funded by a U.S. Department of Labor Community Trade Adjustment Assistance grant for workforce training.

The certificate of completion program will begin in January 2013. Students can now apply for the program. Courses will be offered online and will have flexible scheduling so that students will be able to complete the program in one year.

The College’s Health IT program will provide training in transferring health information on medical records to Electronic Health Records (EHR), Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and security systems, and the new ICD10 medical coding.

This new program will prepare students for new jobs in the medical industry and offer career advancement and improved earning potential for those already working in the industry.

This program is administered through the Utah WERKS (Workforce Education & Retraining for Knowledge and Skills) program. Utah WERKS is a consortium of six colleges and universities in Utah that has received funding from the U.S. Department of Labor under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grants program. The purpose of the grant is to expand and improve the State of Utah’s ability to deliver education and career training programs that can be completed in two years or less for workers who have lost their jobs or are threatened with job loss as a result of foreign trade.
