smartbowler logo "smartbowler pro shops" is pleased to announce two new high performance bowling balls coming soon from Brunswick’s popular DV8 line--the Nightmare and the Marauder Madness. The two balls will become available at on October 31.

The Nightmare replaces the Hell Raiser as the new nameplate for the top-of-the line Pro Performance series of balls. The Nightmare will be the most aggressive ball in the DV8 product line. The black/purple/lime solid Nightmare sets a new standard in aggressive hook motion for the DV8 product line as a result of the new asymmetric core design matched with a new “Class 8” reactive coverstock. The Nightmare will provide stronger hook motion in oil and an extremely quick response to friction on the backend that cuts through the pins on medium to heavy oil. The “Nightmare” is factory finished with a 500-1000-4,000 grit Siaar Micro Pad sequence, which can be adapted to a bowler’s particular needs by dealers. The Nightmare will be introduced by at an undrilled bowling ball price of $139.95.

The blue/neon yellow solid Marauder Madness bowling ball follows the original Marauder to add more power to the DV8 line at a modest price. It will be introduced at at $114.95 undrilled. Brunswick’s testing of the Marauder Madness demonstrated a ball that is clean through the front and digs in the mid-lane to create a strong and continuous motion on a variety of lane conditions. The strong ball motion is a result of its medium RG (radius of gyration = 2.524) performance core matched with a new “Class 5G” reactive coverstock. This special coverstock formulation maintains proper grip throughout the lane on medium oil conditions. The “Marauder Madness” is factory finished with a 500-4,000 grit Siaar Micro Pad sequence, which can be adapted to a bowler’s particular needs by dealers.

The “Nightmare” and “Marauder Madness” are currently unrated for hook and snap on the unique ball guide; the proprietary ratings will be published as soon as they are available from the tests. The Hell Raiser series has a top hook rating of 92 (Hell Raiser Revenge) and the original Marauder has a hook rating of 81. Go to and click on the ball guide to compare the performance bowling balls on the market. The on-line ball guide allows the user to easily sort the balls by hook, snap, brand, introduction date, and price. The benchmark for the hook rating is the biggest hooking ball of all time- the Morich “Awesome Hook”, which has a 95 hook rating. The Awesome Hook has been out of production for several years and is no longer a legal ball per the USBC regulations.
