Rebecca became an important figure as the local elected official on national television, offering successful examples of the integration of marijuana business, and their tax dollars, into a healthy downtown economy.
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) October 09, 2012
Oaksterdam University will present an evening reception for Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, from 6-7:30pm on Thursday October 11th. Hosts will include California NORML Director, Dale Gieringer, Patient ID Center’s Jeff Jones, Oaksterdam University's Executive Chancellor, Dale Sky Jones, Oaksterdam University founder, Richard Lee, and renowned expert on medical cannabis law, Robert Raich.
Councilwoman Kaplan has always been a supporter and leader in the fight for legalization and taxation of medical cannabis. Not only did she initiate the process that led to the approval of four new dispensaries, but she was the only elected official to speak out against the April 2nd raids at Oaksterdam University. Many in the cannabis community would love to see Ms. Kaplan reelected.
Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, will discuss her plans to continue to improve our economy, public safety and Oakland's medical cannabis industry.
Dale Sky Jones commented, "This is a local election that can have a national impact. Rebecca became an important figure as the local elected official on national television, offering successful examples of the integration of marijuana business, and their tax dollars, into a healthy downtown economy. City Council Member-at-Large is a vitally important seat or the cannabis community in Oakland. As a committed reform leader, she came down and stood with us to speak out against the raids at Oaksterdam. As a mother, I appreciate her unrelenting focus on violent gun crime. We need to make sure Rebecca is re-elected this November."
This event follows several recent national campaign events held at Oaksterdam University for Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee, Judge James Gray as well as Peace & Freedom Party Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr. Oaksterdam is planning to host a variety of public events in the month of October including an author panel and book signing.
