Timothy Davenport, M.D. of The Jackson Clinic has been named Tennessee Men's Health Network's (TMHN) "Doctor of the Year" for 2012 by the organization's Board of Directors.

"We are honored to award Dr. Davenport our "Doctor of the Year", says Mike Leventhal, executive director of TMHN. "Dr. Davenport has been a leader for men's health not only in Jackson but also regionally through his service with the Tennessee Men's Health Network. Our entire organization is proud to collaborate with him and look forward to working with him on future projects."

Dr. Davenport is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and is an active member of American Urological Association and the American Medical Association. He completed his internship and residency at The University of Mississippi Medical Center. He attended medical school at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. His primary interests include urological cancers, robotic and minimally invasive surgery and incontinence. He has authored studies that have been published in The Journal of Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Journal of Pharmacy and Therapeutics. In addition, he has written a Patient and Physician Guide to Robotic Prostatectomy.

"I am deeply humbled and honored to be chosen for this award," said Davenport. "Men's health is an important issue that we must talk about. In Tennessee men die at a higher rate than the national average from some of the major causes of death including heart disease, cancer, lung disease and diabetes. We must all work together to change this statistic so our fathers, sons and brothers can have a better future."

Davenport will be speaking on the topic of prostate cancer and robotic surgery at the Jackson Symposium on Men's Health on Friday, October 26 in Jackson, Tennessee where he will also be presented with the "Doctor of the Year" award. The event is free and open to the public.
