For customers looking to expand existing clusters of standardized configurations, this will introduce unnecessary complexity.

Great Lakes Computer, an established technology reseller, has made a large investment in IBM System x3550 M3, IBM System x3650 M3 rack servers, and IBM BladeCenter HS22 blade servers in reaction to IBM’s recent announcement that they will be withdrawing these servers from production.
As these end-of-life products are being replaced in production by next generation IBM System x3550, x3650 M4, and BladeCenter HS23 servers, many SKU’s are already becoming hard to source. Many companies depend on the M3/HS22 server generation to maintain standardization within their current infrastructure.
As explained by a Great Lakes IBM Product Specialist, “For customers looking to expand existing clusters of standardized configurations, this will introduce unnecessary complexity. It will become difficult for our customers to accommodate standardized environments without disruptions and downtime. The alternative is a wholesale replacement with new technology, generally an unnecessary expense when equipment is running just fine.”
Great Lakes Computer has taken strategic inventory positions on IBM x3650 M3, IBM x3550 M3, and IBM HS22 servers.
