Defran Systems to co-host seminar, discussion panel on Health Information Exchange (HIE), data-driven performance models and national and state-level health reform efforts

Defran Systems, a leading developer of web-based, enterprise-wide EHR and financial management software for behavioral health organizations, today is co-hosting a seminar for behavioral health providers along with Behavioral Healthcare Magazine and the North American Family Institute (NAFI / NFI). The event, held at the Boston area Verve Crowne Plaza, will cover how HIE, data-driven performance models and both national and state-level health reform efforts are affecting human services providers and how they can prepare for these impending changes.

Today’s event brings together expert panelists and thought leaders from key stakeholders such as Vic DiGravio, president / CEO of the Association for Behavioral Healthcare, Dennis Grantham, editor-in-chief, Behavioral Healthcare Magazine, and Dan Nakamoto, treasurer, NFI Massachusetts. Through presentations and panel discussions, attendees will gain a broad understanding of how national payment reform legislation will alter how they administer their services and how dual eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) individuals will be treated under new regulations.

“We want attendees to understand why developing a standardized documentation model for community-based behavioral health services is critical, not only for Massachusetts, but for the entire country,” said DiGravio. “Not only will this aid in providers’ integration efforts, but once the entire behavioral health community – from federal-level funders to individual providers – embrace a standardized model, providers will benefit through simpler compliance, more efficient business practices, and ultimately an increase in the quality of client care.”

Today’s seminar and luncheon will cover broad questions, such as how HIE will change providers’ day to day operations and why Health IT is critical to successful healthcare integration. Speakers will address Massachusetts-specific concerns as well, such as how the Massachusetts Standardized Documentation Project (MSDP) ties into national health reform initiatives.

“It is becoming increasingly important for providers to think about how we’re going to integrate with primary care and prepare for health care reform. There are many layers to preparation for integration and it is reassuring that Defran has been attentive to industry needs and challenges, particularly the willingness to go above and beyond to get MSDP certification,” said Nakamoto. “It is essential that all software vendors vendors embrace these standardization efforts.”

“We are looking forward to co-hosting this event along with other well respected industry experts and stakeholders,” said Fran Loshin-Turso, president and CEO, Defran Systems, Inc. “Standardization is an issue that is of great importance to the behavioral health industry today, and it will continue to increase in importance as the industry evolves. As such, Defran will continue to advocate for these efforts whenever and wherever we can.”
