Krylon Industrial knows that a locator’s work is literally “on the line” for identifying and marking various utilities for excavation and construction sites. Krylon Industrial understands that, ultimately, the primary goal of any locator is to maximize safety and prevent damage. And when it comes to marking paint, Krylon Industrial understands what locators need to make their mark every day.
This summer, Krylon Industrial gave all locators throughout the U.S. a chance to win a Scholarship to the 2012 International Utility Locate Rodeo. Since its inception in 2001, The International Utility Locate Rodeo has been the preeminent competitive event for Utility Locate Technicians in the U.S., Canada and Europe. This annual event for locate professionals is co-sponsored by the National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NULCA) and the Georgia Utilities Protection Center (UPC) to encourage better locates, a safer work environment and reduced damage to the utility infrastructure.
“This competition provides an opportunity to recognize the great work of individuals and a profession that normally goes unnoticed unless a mistake is made,” said Meghan Chestnutt, Locate Rodeo spokeswoman.
The International Utility Locate Rodeo is an opportunity for utility locators to come together and compete for the rights to be called the industry’s most accurate locators and win part of over $10,000 in prizes. The event is one of the greatest venues for celebrating the locating industry across the nation and also features a trade show where the top companies in the locating industry display their latest tools and technologies. The entire event emphasizes the need to be accurate as well as the importance of continuing to educate and practice industry standards.
Krylon Industrial is proud to have been the Official Marking Paint Sponsor of the Locate Rodeo since 2004.
“We feel this event is the perfect setting to recognize not only the skill and dedication of all locators, but also the importance of the locating industry and the job that all locators do to keep all of us safe every day,” said Rick Barone, Senior Product Manager at Krylon Industrial. “Locators remind me of the left tackle in football: you never hear about him until the quarterback gets sacked. And I think that’s unfortunate because without locators, a lot of construction and other great work throughout the country would not get done.”
As the Official Marking Paint Sponsor of the International Utility Locate Rodeo, Krylon Industrial offered four (4) Krylon Industrial Locate Rodeo Scholarships for locators to attend the event and pit their skills against the best in the country. For the winners, Krylon Industrial payed the registration fee, their flight and hotel accommodations. Out of the over 400 Entries that were received, Krylon Industrial is proud to recognize the winners of the 2012 Krylon Industrial Locate Rodeo Scholarships:
Gas Division: Justin Binkley from Premier Utility Service in Happouga, NY
Water Division: Randy Hoskins from the City of Fairborn, OH
Telecom Division: Craig Wiggins from SoftDig Underground Services in Edgemont, PA
Power Division: Dusty Thomasson from Alabama Utility Protection Services, LLC in Oneonta, AL
“We'd like to congratulate Justin, Randy, Craig and Dusty on winning the 2012 Krylon Industrial Locate Rodeo Scholarships. We had a great time with them at the Rodeo.
