The purpose of long-range forecasts is to manage risk.
Rapid City, SD (PRWEB) October 11, 2012
Chris Orr LLC, a weather forecast consulting service, has been producing weekly detailed 30- to 45-day outlooks forecasts for more than 12 years. Now, updates for its agricultural, energy, investment and construction clients are available as often as three times a week. Seasonal forecasts are now updated each week.
"Right now, the National Weather Service updates its outlook once a month," says Chris Orr, one of 325 Certified Consulting Meteorologists in the U.S. "That does not allow businesses to quickly react to shifts in extreme weather patterns."
"Technology and changes to proprietary methods allow our forecasters to make these frequent updates," according to Orr. "30-day, 60-day and seasonal forecasts are all designed to manage the risk associated with extreme weather," according to Orr.
Chris Orr LLC's global forecasts are used to track changes in extreme weather, ranging from droughts and storms to heatwaves and polar outbreaks. Instead of noting areas where above or below normal temperature and precipitation may occur, Orr's forecasts give specific dates when major weather events will happen in the 60 days.
"Everybody has a specific need, so a client may get updates once a week or three times a week. Some like to have the ability to call and talk to a forecaster," said Orr, who has been a long-range forecaster for more than 25 years.
