On October 10th, commuter bike manufacturer Linus Bike reacts to an article published by Pegasus News which reveals a survey suggesting that bicycle advocacy is supported by a majority of the nation.
According to Pegasus News, regardless of political stance, Democrats and Republics alike agreed that a biking infrastructure would be a positive change across the United States. The article refers to a national Princeton-conducted survey which reports, “80 percent of Republicans and 88 percent of Democrats, as well as 83 percent of all respondents, supported maintaining or increasing federal funding for bike paths, bike lanes and sidewalks.” In addition, the study, which was commissioned by bicycle advocacy group America Bikes, reveals that although 12 percent of trips are taken by bicycle or by foot only “2 percent of the Congress budget for transportation goes to bicyclists and pedestrians.”
According to Pegasus News, Denton City, Texas will spend the next 10 years redesigning approximately 80 miles of roadway for their pedestrian and bicycle plan transforming the city’s infrastructure in support of bicyclists. According to Jason Latty, sales manager for the commuter bike manufacturer Linus Bike, “It’s unmistakable that cycling is becoming increasingly popular across the [United States]. Knowing this, the infrastructure of our towns and cities should absolutely be restructured to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. Here at Linus Bike we encourage people to take an environmentally friendly approach to transportation. On top of being peaceful and fun, cycling will improve your community.”
In addition, the Denton city plan will improve the community by providing “better connectivity between education centers, commercial restaurants and retail, recreational areas and neighborhoods.”
