Build a Menu (http://www.BuildAMenu.com), a meal planning service for budget minded families, kicks off the giving season by pledging 50% of new membership proceeds to orphan care charities with their “Plan a Menu, Help a Child” campaign. The campaign will begin in November for National Adoption Month and continue thru December.

Build A Menu was founded in 2011 by Karee Blunt and her sister, Lisa Holcomb, to help families save money and to take the stress out of meal planning on a budget. They also decided from the beginning that part of the proceeds would go toward helping orphan care charities. Blunt and Holcomb are both strong advocates for this cause. Between their two families, they have 11 children, five of whom are adopted from Russia, China and Texas. (http://www.buildamenu.com/plan-menu-help-child)

“Our goal is to not only help families plan healthy, affordable meals, but to raise money for charities that are helping some of the most vulnerable children in the world. Adoption is something that is very important to us and we’re thrilled to be able to give a portion of our proceeds to orphan care charities.”

The meal planning service lets members create a menu that shows them how much their groceries will cost before they ever get to the grocery store. The site is unique among other menu planning sites because it shows actual pricing for each recipe and allows members to choose from any menu category to create their weekly meal plan.

Menu options include:

  •     Family Friendly
  •     Low Fat/Sensible Portions
  •     Low Carb
  •     Gluten Free
  •     Vegetarian
  •     Slow cooker
  •     Grill-a-Meal
  •     Soups On!
  •     Manly Meals
  •     Crowd Pleasers

Menus are available for 4-6 people as well as 1-2 people. In addition to dinner recipes, Build a Menu also offers breakfast, lunch, sides, snacks, Cooking With Kids and a Dessert of the Week recipe making the service a one stop meal planner for members. A customized shopping list ensures they get everything they need to make each recipe so there will be no need to make multiple trips to the store throughout the week. The menu planning service features Wal-Mart, H.E.B., Kroger, Safeway, Publix, Fred Meyer and will be offering a Costco plan by the end of the year. “I was just building my menu and marveling that I am going to be able to fly through the store in under 30 min and have ingredients for seven fabulous dinners when I walk out the door. Those dinners plus sides and a lunch or two come to something like $55, and I won't even spend that much because I already have some of the ingredients on hand. Seriously, this is is ridiculously awesome.” BAM member, Patti Brown of Austin, TX.

Memberships are available for $8 a month or less and allow you access to all the weekly recipes. Visit http://www.buildamenu.com to register and start saving money and time on grocery shopping.
