Exactly one year has passed since the Internet was set ablaze by a viral video clip featuring a cyclist who was trounced by an African antelope while riding in a bicycle race for Team Jeep South Africa.
Eclipsing ten million video views in a matter of days, the clip was an instant classic, making 17 year-old Evan van der Spuy (the unfortunate cyclist) the subject of a flurry of media attention.
In the past year, the video clip, represented by ChiWay Entertainment, has been licensed to more than 30 TV shows in a dozen countries; van der Spuy has been featured with interviews and appearances on NBC’s the Today Show, CNN, BBC, and others.
“In four years in the viral video business, we’ve never had a video capture the public’s attention quite like Evan’s,” said Mike Wallis, Vice President of Media for ChiWay Entertainment.
To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the video, ChiWay Entertainment has released a new video featuring a super-cut of never-before-seen interview footage of van der Spuy, his TV appearances, additional footage from the race, and of course, the amazing shots of van der Spuy getting suddenly and ferociously attacked by the buck.
The one-year anniversary video can be found on JukinVideo.com and on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEvXSbPaJgY&feature=plcp
The original video has nearly 15 million views and continues to grow.
