Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) October 10, 2012
Arizona Pain Specialists (arizonapain.com), the elite comprehensive pain management clinic in the Phoenix area, has cleared all three of their pain management facilities from any possible risk of exposure to the national outbreak of meningitis.
The recent outbreak has largely affected patients in several other states, including Tennessee, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Indiana, and Michigan. These patients received spinal injections through a medication produced from the Massachusetts-based New England Compounding Center. The suspected steroid medication in the injections was often used to treat back pain.
“Arizona Pain Specialists has never utilized the suspected manufacturer of these contaminated products in any capacity,” says Dr. Tory McJunkin. “We are committed to patient safety and none of Arizona Pain Specialists’ medication vendors are being affected by this outbreak,” says Dr. McJunkin.
National reports say that tests are still underway to identify the exact type of fungus linked to the outbreak among back-pain patients who received injections of methylprednisolone acetate, a steroid that is injected into the epidural space of the spine.
“When performing epidural steroid injections, we do not inject depomedrol or its generic version, methylprednisolone acetate. Our often utilized steroids of choice include triamcinolone or dexamethasone,” says Dr. McJunkin.
Arizona Pain Specialists continues to uphold nationally recognized practice standards as a leader in the field of pain management, and specializes in cutting edge, minimally invasive procedures for all types of chronic pain. Their many non-surgical procedures have shown to be extremely successful in curing pain, including epidural steroid injections for back and neck pain.
“We have always tried to be as proactive as possible when it comes to patient safety. In this case, our high standards of quality control ensured our patients were not exposed to unnecessary risk,” says Arizona Pain Specialists CEO Joe Carlon.
