Salon Khouri, a Fairfax hair salon acclaimed by Northern Virginia Magazine, is holding their 6th annual cut-a-thon on October 14th, 2012 to raise money for The Band of Parents Foundation as well as The Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. The cut-a-thon this year will be in honor of two local, little girls who are battling two deadly forms of childhood cancer. Taylor Love, of Ashburn, VA was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was 18 months of age, and Ava Buhr of Fairfax, VA, who was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in November of 2011 at just two and a half years old.

The event will be held from 11 AM until 3 PM. All haircuts will be $25, or more if you can give more, and 100% of the funds will be donated to The Band of Parents and The Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Salon Khouri began holding the annual cut-a-thon in 2007 when Salon Khouri co-owner, Jennifer Elkhouri, learned about Taylor through a family friend. "My first child was just about to turn one, and I remember learning about Taylor. I felt sick to my stomach just thinking about what this family and little girl must be going through. I made a commitment that day to do something to help," notes Salon Khouri co-owner, Jennifer Elkhouri. "I am happy to say that both Taylor and Ava are currently in remission, however, they both have many uncertain days ahead of them. We will continue to support these two little girls and others fighting pediatric cancer each year with our cut-a-thon." Jennifer is troubled by the current lack of awareness and funding for pediatric cancer and encourages everyone to watch the documentary to be released this week on The Truth 365 website at http://www.thetruth365.org.

In five years of hosting the annual cut-a-thon, Salon Khouri has raised a little over $7300.

100% of all funds collected will go to The Band of Parents and The Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. The Band of Parents is a non-profit assembled by parents of children suffering from neuroblastoma. The Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation is a non-profit working closely with scientists, researchers and doctors who are pioneers in the pediatric cancer field. These researchers are at the forefront of bringing many alternative therapies into clinic which could prolong the lives of children diagnosed with neuroblastoma until a cure is funded.
