The $4.7 million, 8,005 square foot design-build Audiology Clinic at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System, in Loma Linda, CA was recently completed by the Teehee-Straub Joint Venture team. Members of the team include Teehee Engineering, Inc. (Oceanside, CA), Straub Construction, Inc. (Fallbrook, CA), and KMA Architecture & Engineering (San Diego, CA).
The new audiology clinic was constructed with a steel frame and stucco exterior, a glazed curtain wall storefront, and a concrete slab roof. Additionally, to convey a welcoming environment that is connected to the VA Medical Campus, an outdoor sitting area and covered patio was provided. Underground utilities were installed to service not only the audiology clinic, but also the future cancer care and substance abuse buildings.
The new audiology clinic was designed and built with several sustainable design features such as efficient mechanical split VAV systems, walk-off entry mats, energy saving lighting systems and window shades on sun-exposed sides of building, plus additional windows for increased daylighting. Water savings features were also included such as low flow toilets and sinks, and water efficient landscaping.
Other design-build team members included Burkett & Wong Engineering, ELEN Consulting, DSEngineering, Young + Company, Crescere Design and RB Reggan & Associates.
The Teehee-Straub joint venture was formed under the United States Small Business Administration Certified Mentor-Protege program. Both Teehee Engineering, Inc. and Straub Construction, Inc. provide construction services for public and private clients across the Southwest U.S.
