Everyone wants to lose weight but dieting isn’t always the solution. In fact some people aren’t overweight at all, but they have a heavy appearance due to inherited fat stores around the eyelids, jowls, neck or arms. A new combination of the AccuSculpt laser lipo procedure with neuromodulators such as Botox and Radiesse dermal filler has been introduced by Robin Fleck, MD, medical director at Body Oasis Laser Aesthetics in Prescott, Arizona. This treatment is effective for baggy eyelids, ‘double chin’, jowls, heavy neck and cheeks.
With the new AccuSculpt laser lipo procedure, heavy jowls and “double chin” can be eliminated in about 30 minutes. This system has been developed to provide the precision needed for the delicate work of facial contouring. It is a safe and effective procedure to offer to those patients looking for alternatives to the traditional facelift. In the past clients had only two choices: non-invasive procedures offered by aestheticians that require multiple sessions and unpredictable results, or suffering through higher costs, higher risks and longer downtimes of fully invasive procedures like face lifts.
“Many patients hesitate to have even minimal cosmetic procedures because they are concerned about the dangers of general anesthesia, scarring, or cost”, says Dr. Robin Fleck, medical director of Body Oasis Laser Aesthetics, “but laser- lipo is conducted under local anesthesia with the patient fully conscious.” In experienced hands, laser treatment is safe, and adverse effects such as scarring are rare. Typically, patients experience 2-3 days of post laser bruising and minimal pain. Traditional face lifts under general anesthesia have a lengthy downtime and high cost, but the AccuSculpt is very affordable.
“More people are looking for ways to feel and look younger and the AccuSculpt laser can do just that”, notes Jan Gillum, medical assistant at Body Oasis Laser Aesthetics. “We are finding new uses every day for this state- of- the- art laser.” Clients want quick recovery with almost no discomfort after surgery and this laser system provides all this and more. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating, can even be treated by disrupting the sweat glands with this laser.
AccuSculpt laser lipolysis is also effective for removing baggy lower eyelids; however, the problem in this area results from loss of deeper tissues on the cheek which support the eyelids. For this reason, dermal cosmetic fillers such as Radiesse and Restylane are usually required to complete the cosmetic restoration. Filler is typically injected into this area a month after the laser procedure. With this two-step, minimally invasive procedure: laser plus filler, the need for eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, is rapidly becoming outmoded.
The AccuSculpt system uses needle-sized entry points for the laser, which heal with no suturing and no scarring, and the laser melts fat under the skin, making it easy to remove with liposuction. In this way, delicate facial contours are restored for a more youthful appearance. In contrast, traditional liposuction is difficult to use on the face and neck because of these issues. Facelifts and lunchtime quick lifts do not remove the fat when the skin is lifted so heavy jowls remain and can result in less than optimal results. The size of the incision with facelift results in telltale scarring around the ears, and if too much tension is placed on the incision, the scar will stretch and become red with time. No scarring is left with the AccuSculpt procedure.
An added benefit of the laser treatment is skin tightening which is not seen with traditional liposuction. By gently heating the dermis, collagen production is stimulated which results in a defined appearance along the jawline. For even more tightening, patients can elect to have facial resurfacing with the Active FX CO2 laser 2-3 months after the AccuSculpt procedure. The additive skin tightening of these combined non invasive laser procedures gives remarkable results nearly equaling those obtained with a traditional face lift.
To maintain this new appearance, the use of Botox on the platysma muscle of the neck works wonders. The reason for this is that the muscle attaches to the facial muscles at the jowl area and results in a downward pull on the facial muscles. Relaxing the platysma muscle results in a less jowly appearance which distorts the defined jawline.
