The Marseilles Hotel in South Beach, Fla., has awarded a nearly $200,000 contract to Venetian Builders, Inc., of Miami to design and construct a new 1,200-square-foot deck between the Marseilles and the hotel swimming pool. Some weddings and large outdoor social gatherings at the Marseilles Hotel will take place on the deck, which is being constructed of and finished with naturally weather-resistant ipe lumber imported from Brazil.

Ipe will give the deck strength and long life. We’re using 6-by-6-inch ipe posts for the foundation, which will far outlast treated pine and will not have to be revamped over the years.

A new deck is on deck at the Marseilles Hotel in South Beach, where crews from Venetian Builders, Inc., Miami, have been working on the giant structure since early October. The 1,200-square-foot party place, which is scheduled for completion this month, will replace a weathered and worn structure in the same location.
The Marseilles is a beachfront boutique Hotel dating to the 1940s along Collins Avenue in the Miami Beach Art Deco District. Many of the original Art Deco details of the hotel have been preserved. Venetian Builders is a leading designer and installer of outdoor structures for residential and commercial customers in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and surrounding communities.
The new deck is sized to accommodate the large crowds that attend major outdoor gatherings, including weddings, that are booked at the hotel. The deck will be just off the Marseilles ballroom and will overlook the hotel swimming pool.
Ipe, the wood chosen for the decking and its structure, has a reputation for being hard, weather-resistant and durable. The lumber that will go into the deck was imported from Brazil.
“Ipe will give the deck strength and long life,” said Christopher Noe, Venetian Builders president. Even the supporting structure is ipe. “We’re using 6-by-6-inch ipe posts for the foundation, which will far outlast treated pine and will not have to be revamped over the years.”
Venetian prides itself on finding just the right finishes for a customer's deck or patio, Noe said
Ten craftsmen have been working on the deck, Noe said. He expects completion of the deck and a new privacy wall this month.
The 8-foot-high ipe wall will serve as a guard rail, privacy wall from neighboring hotels, and decorative border for the deck. It will border both sides of the deck; at the rear of the deck it will create a visual passageway to the pool and its accompanying facilities. The wall will be incorporated with boxwood fern and Japanese rosewood vine. Water attractions will be part of the deck re-creation.
