In her new novel “Myth of the Moon Goddess: The Aradia Chronicles – Books One, Two, and Three” (published by iUniverse), author April Rane presents the ongoing lives of the Goddess Aradia, who with a heavy heart gives up her immortality and leaves all that she loves behind, only to find herself enmeshed in a brutal web of patriarchal dominance on Earth, where men rape, pillage and burn the Temples of the Goddess.
Reminiscent of Marion Zimmer Bradley in “Mist of Avalon,” Rane has taken myth, legend and historical setting, woven in elements of magic and the world of the unseen, and created a rich tapestry of entertainment.
In this fantasy epic, Aradia is sworn to help the plight of women; unfortunately she converges on a world prepared to do anything to stop her lofty mission. In a moment of agony and despair Aradia casts a harsh spell on her lover, but her actions come with consequences. After all Earth has rules – karma for instance.
An excerpt from “Myth of the Moon Goddess”:
Aradia sat by her window, marveling at the last hues of daylight. She watched as the sun’s golden orb melted into the earth, leaving behind multicolored rays pulsating in the backdrop of the now dimly lit sky. Deciding that she would tell Sovonya everything in the morning made her recognize it was easier being someone she was not. She could play the role and not face the fact that her whole family had been butchered.
Rane hopes her book inspires women, as well as entertains them. “‘Myth of the Moon Goddess’ opens the karmic portal between life, death and rebirth and will transport readers back and forward in time so they can scale the depths of truth with courage and evaluate the now in their lives,” says Rane. “The spirit and strength of women hold the key to the destiny of this planet – their nurturing, beauty and love will guide us all to the deeper knowledge of our souls.”
