“This book teaches you that there are heroes walking among us every day, if we just take the time to look.”

Author Shirleen Von Hoffmann pays a resounding tribute to the resilient spirit and strength of an all-American in her latest biography, “A Sharecropper's Son: The Life of Ted Sullen” (published by AuthorHouse).

Born and raised in the small town of High Bluff, Ala., Sullen grew up in the South during tough times, working on a farm six days a week, rain or shine, from dawn until dusk. Education was not a priority, and Sullen, who learned how to read on his own, would have to walk three miles to school when he did attend.

“My dream was to leave as soon as I could,” Sullen recalls. “The U.S. Air Force gave me a chance to leave. I thank God every day.” Von Hoffmann recounts the details of how Sullen endured the horrors of Vietnam as a member of the Air Force but “never let any of it dampen his internal light,” she writes. “This book teaches you that there are heroes walking among us every day, if we just take the time to look.”

Praise for “A Sharecropper’s Son”:

“Enlightening, poignant and compelling, Ted’s personal story of perseverance touched my heart and reminded me why this life is worth living. He is an amazing man and a true champion, with a wonderful story to tell. Not only did this book capture my heart, but it will capture yours.”
