Pinterest has been named as the most effective social network for driving traffic and sales to e-commerce sites, according to studies Econsultancy looked at.
UK use of Pinterest has seen a 786% increase in the last year, up from 901,761 in September 2011 to 7, 985, 316 in September 2012. In the US this increased from 9.2 million to 139 million.
Econsultancy also found that Pinterest attracts more unique visits to websites with research finding that 86% of visits from Pinterest were new compared to 57% from Facebook.
Food and drink was the most popular category on the site, followed by DIY and crafts. In terms of pinboards, home decor featured the most heavily, followed by art and design.
Most interestingly, research suggests that Pinterest users spent twice as much as Facebook users, spending an average of $180 compared to Facebook’s $85.
