Four entrepreneurial student teams from Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University will soon be competing in the Oxford Digital Marketing Challenge, aiming to make the most money from their own customised versions of a daily offers website.
The competition has been organised by Oxford Entrepreneurs in association with Buyometric, the UK’s leading aggregator of daily offers. Each team has designed their own version of the site, modelled on and provided by Buyometric, and the sites are scheduled to go live on Saturday 3rd November. Each team will then have 6 weeks to market their site in order to generate the most sales. The winning team will receive a share of combined earnings, and all teams will have the opportunity to continue running their sites after the competition if they are successful in building a business.
The competition will put their business skills to the test as it will require them to build up a subscriber base from scratch and bootstrap their way to success, with a budget of only £100. The challenge aims to encourage innovation and fresh thinking as well as existing online marketing skills.
Buyometric co-founder Helen Cammack says, “We’re running this challenge partly to bring out new talent in digital marketing, and partly to learn something we can apply to our own business from the students’ successes. We’ve found some great student teams at the kick-off meetings, and I’m optimistic about their chances of getting subscribers and making money. With just a week to go till we officially launch the websites, we can’t wait to see what the teams will come up with.”
