In real life it's not that straightforward. We have to pay for our gadgets if they are lost, stolen, damaged or simply break.

The release last week of 'Skyfall', the twenty-third official James Bond film, could not have gone better. The occasion was even more special because it marked the fiftieth anniversary of the first film, 'Dr No', and 'Skyfall' reviews were almost universally positive.
But gadget fans will probably be disappointed, as there were no particularly new or outrageous gadgets in the new film. Bond films used to be ahead of their time, with Goldfinger showing us satnav and a vehicle tracker in 1964, gadgets that took over thirty years to become commonplace.
Even Bond himself tells the new Q (Ben Wishaw) that he is disappointed by the lack of gadgets, only to be told that Q branch no longer goes in for exploding pens.
UK insurance provider Insure My Mobile Phone has researched the new film and spotted only a mobile phone and a tracker device as gadgets that us mere mortals might use. With Insure My Mobile Phone's cost-effective policies a premium of around £10 per month would cover both of these gadgets.
Of course James Bond wouldn't be concerned with insuring any gadgets. Previous Bond films showed expensive gadgetry being routinely destroyed, while Q's efforts to reign in Bond's appetite for destruction are treated with complete scorn.
In real life it's not that straightforward. We have to pay for our gadgets if they are lost, stolen, damaged or simply break. But often we don’t insure individual gadgets at all, often we just rely on our household or car insurance policies. With mobile phones, many of us take the insurance that's offered when we buy or upgrade, and not many of those policies will cover what you've paid to download like music, films, games and apps.
Insure My Mobile Phone, which covers all sorts of gadgets, is at pains to point out that better options are available.
There are often significant gaps in home contents and car insurance policies when it comes to gadgets. For example a gadget like a satnav might not be covered if it's dropped or stolen while you're walking to your car. In addition the insurance provided by mobile phone companies is often double the price of competitive insurance from independent companies.
The message from Insure My Mobile Phone is to check your phone and gadget policies to make sure you are always covered. You might not be tasked with saving the world but at least you'll get your gadgets replaced or repaired should something go wrong.
