PNA Village (a program of the Phinney Neighborhood Association) and Era Living have formalized a partnership to help support North Seattle seniors who are PNA Village members. In addition to financial support, Era Living is extending life long learning opportunities and healthy aging programs to PNA Village members via its four North Seattle communities. The collaboration consists of regular lecture series and various events at Aljoya Thornton Place, Ida Culver House Broadview, Ida Culver House Ravenna and University House Wallingford. PNA Village provides complimentary transportation to its members for these Era Living events.

North Seattle retirees are choosing to stay in their homes longer and want to lead healthy, independent lives. PNA Village empowers seniors to stay in their homes with support in the form of minor home repairs, yard work, shopping assistance and transportation. PNA Village members also have access to referrals and information about service providers who have been vetted by the organization.

“The mission of this partnership is to build community and to support seniors as they choose how they want to age,” said PNA Village Coordinator, Janice Dilworth. “The PNA Village community is morphing into what our members want, and they have chosen to emphasize their passion for learning as a unique trait of our community. We are ecstatic that Era Living is supporting this by opening its communities to our members with many opportunities for life long learning along with its financial contribution to PNA Village.”

Era Living is a Seattle-based senior living organization with eight communities: Aljoya Thornton Place, Aljoya Mercer Island, The Gardens at Town Square, Ida Culver House Broadview, Ida Culver House Ravenna, The Lakeshore, University House Issaquah, and University House Wallingford. Through its affiliations with the University of Washington, Seattle Education Auxiliary, and the community at large, Era Living communities provide enriched programming in the form of lectures and discussion groups focused on historical, political, scientific, cultural and health-related topics, as well as professionally curated art exhibits and fitness classes.

“Everyone wins when our community is enriched through life long learning programs, options for healthy aging, and events to make friends with neighbors,” said Era Living Founder and CEO, Eli Almo. “Partnering with PNA Village gives seniors throughout North Seattle new opportunities, choices, and options to stay passionate about life and experience more fulfillment as a result.”

Newly launched, the PNA Village program is at the forefront of a new aging in place concept designed to create an elder friendly community. The Village is a membership-driven, grass-roots organization that, through both volunteers and paid staff, coordinates access to affordable services including transportation, health and wellness programs, home repairs, social and educational activities, and other day-to-day needs enabling individuals to remain connected to their community throughout the aging process.

Since 1987, Era Living has been dedicated to fostering a healthy and engaging environment of whole body wellness, culture, warmth, and social fulfillment – providing premier healthcare services and enriching activities at all eight of its communities. The Era Living communities are Aljoya Mercer Island, Aljoya Thornton Place, Ida Culver House Broadview, Ida Culver House Ravenna, The Gardens at Town Square, The Lakeshore, University House Issaquah, and University House Wallingford. The Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is a non-profit community organization founded in 1980 by community residents. Headquartered in a former elementary school, the PNA has developed an active community center that serves as a focus of the Phinney/Greenwood neighborhood, but also offers services and activities that reach far beyond the neighborhood, with programs at five different sites. Current programs include four preschools, a before and after school enrichment program, a hot meal program that serves three meals a week for those in need from two sites, a senior center and the new PNA Village, an art gallery, a tool lending library, a community education program and countless special events intended to connect neighbors and foster civic involvement. http://phinneycenter.org/
