God is God; life is life; death is death; nature is nature; and no one is without their own set of thoughts and feelings.

Lynda Harris takes readers deep within her heart and soul and shares her innermost thoughts and feelings in the pages of her new poetry collection, “Lanterns of the Soul: A Poetic Journey through Life” (published by iUniverse).

Divided into six sections, Harris’ poems are presented in the order in which they were written, from oldest to newest. Her ruminations are accessible and provocative, and each poem features its own distinct, rhyming cadence. She writes from a deeply personal perspective about a variety of relatable topics including love, family, mortality and Christian faith.

Harris’ poem, “Awakening Cries,” written April 1988:

“Little baby, why this cry?
Such tears upon your face.
Saddened eyes and choking sighs,
Your precious smile you waste.

Perhaps a frightening dream
Where friend did turn to foe,
Where light turned into darkness,
Or you fell while on the go.

Perhaps you woke and missed me
And feared that I was gone.
Come baby into Momma’s arms;
I’ve been here all along.”

“Even in today’s society with all its extreme technology, many things still remain the same,” Harris writes, “God is God; life is life; death is death; nature is nature; and no one is without their own set of thoughts and feelings.”
