Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts will begin registration for winter classes on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Participants can register online at or by calling 703-937-6307. Winter classes offered include voice, piano, drumming, drama, guitar, and Wolf Trap’s Signature Programs for Early Learners: Baby Artsplay!™, and Artsplay!™ Wolf Trap classes emphasize personal achievement, community building, and encourage lifelong learning through the arts. Learn the fundamentals—keys, chords, strum patterns, and fingerpicking—as well as notation and various musical styles in a welcoming environment. Djembe specialist and Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist Kofi Dennis guides adults of all skill levels through the engaging experience of a djembe drum circle. Feel your stress melt away through this therapeutic art form as you discover the rhythmic patterns, phrases, and techniques of this prominent West African drumming tradition in a comfortable group setting. Bring your own djembe drum or rent one from the instructor.

Junior Jammin’: Djembe Drumming and Drama

Music, playwriting, set-design, and acting – this class has it all! Children and their caregivers come together to dramatize a fable while learning the rhythmic patterns of the Djembe drum. This interactive eight-week class is led by Djembe specialist and Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist Kofi Dennis, and culminates in a final performance featuring the original music and script created in class. Baby Artsplay!™

Love to sing and dance with your little one? Discover ways to encourage self-expression and imaginative play with your child through music, movement and stories led by Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artists. Our engaging and interactive signature program for children six months to three years-old and their parents or caregivers stimulates young children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. Songs and experiences learned in class enhance your playtime at home.
3 – 5 years
Saturdays, 1/12 – 3/2
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Artsplay is the best play! Foster your child’s imagination and creative self-expression in our signature program for three to five year olds. Led by Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artists, children will stretch, wiggle, and romp in a welcoming space as they explore the characters and themes of a book through music, movement, and dramatization.

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded by Catherine Filene Shouse (1896-1994), produces and presents a full range of performance and education programs in the Greater Washington area, as well as nationally and internationally.
