Mercy Medical Center has received the Women’s Choice Award from WomenCertified® distinguishing it as one of the 2012 America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience.

The Women’s Choice Award is the only national award that focuses on female patient satisfaction using scores derived from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) database.

The scoring incorporates WomenCertified’s research on customer satisfaction among women, including a joint study on customer satisfaction by gender conducted with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The 100 best scores in four hospital size categories determine the Award winners. WomenCertified accepts absolutely no payment in exchange for placement on the list.

“The Women’s Choice Award is based on criteria that examine female patient satisfaction, what women say they want from a hospital. This includes quality communication with doctors, how well nurses and support staff respond to patient needs, cleanliness, etc. This award reflects the long tradition of the Sisters of Mercy and the efforts of everyone at Mercy Medical Center to best serve our patients,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO of Mercy Medical Center.

WomenCertified represents the collective voice of female consumers and is a trusted referral source for top businesses and brands identified as meeting the needs and preferences of women.

“Mercy is renowned for women’s health care, a reputation built on the work of doctors and nurses in fields ranging from breast cancer to ovarian cancer to plastic and reconstructive surgery to the latest in robotic minimally invasive procedures, and much more,” said Dr. Neil B. Rosenshein, Director, The Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine. The Center had been recognized as one of America’s 10 Best women’s centers by SELF Magazine.

“Mercy Medical Center’s selection by WomenCertified as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience differentiates it from other choices in the area,” explained Delia Passi, CEO and founder of WomenCertified, and former publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines. “Women have many choices when it comes to health care, and they set the standard for customer service. Women’s Choice Award recipients have demonstrated extraordinary service in meeting the needs of women and their families, and represent the smart choice for women.”

Women make or influence more than 90 percent of health care decisions for themselves and their families, according to a study published by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Women’s Choice Award indicates that a hospital meets high standards regarding a woman’s preferences, and the distinction allows women to make an informed decision about where to go for care for themselves or their family.

“From Mercy’s recognition by U.S. News & World Report as a top hospital, to our Nurse Magnet Designation, to being named One of America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, and now, the 2012 Women’s Choice Award, this has been an outstanding year of success and achievement for Mercy,” Mr. Mullen said.
