Timothy L. Christen, Chairman and CEO of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly), was recently named a Managing Partner Elite by Accounting Today. Christen is “One of the most widely admired managing partners in the country,” said Accounting Today. He has taken Baker Tilly “national through a breakneck series of mergers,” the publication continued, “while the M&A made headlines, a careful internal focus on people and technology has made them pay off.”
“It has been an honor to work with the people and clients who make up the Baker Tilly family; they are the heart of Baker Tilly,” said Christen. “To me, this recognition is because of the commitment of our team members to be Valued Business Advisors to our clients. Because of their dedication, our firm has continued to grow, and our clients are able to achieve their business goals.”
Christen began his career at Baker Tilly in 1980, becoming the firm’s CEO in 1999. During his tenure as CEO, the firm has completed more than 10 mergers, experienced triple-digit revenue growth, and increased its staff by more than 75 percent. Christen’s involvement in both national and international governing boards positions him as a leader in the accounting profession. He serves on the Board of Directors of Baker Tilly International and as a member of the Baker Tilly International North American Regional Advisory Council. An active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Christen recently completed a three-year term as chair of the organization’s Major Firms Group and is a past member of the AICPA Board of Directors. The AICPA is the world's largest association representing the accounting profession with nearly 370,000 members in 128 countries. His role involves him in important national and international issues such as the convergence of International Financial Reporting Standards. Christen is a CPA and a CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant).
