Salesnet Contributes to Half Hour Heroes Mentor Program

Salesnet, a customer relationship management (CRM) software and professional services company, leverages its software and personnel to develop mentoring resources in the community.

Half Hour Heroes is a local mentoring program focused on assisting students at the elementary and middle school. Each school has students who would greatly benefit from having a positive adult role model in their life and, a Half Hour Hero is a volunteer that meets this need. Once a volunteer is matched with a student, the volunteer meets with that child for 30 minutes a week as tutor in a given subject area or simply as a friend.

Lynn Madderra from Salesnet has been involved as a volunteer for several years at one of the local Duluth elementary schools, and recently became their Volunteer Coordinator.

"Very quickly, I realized that one of the biggest challenges to implementing the Half Hour Hero program each year is the collection and coordination of volunteers in our the community. We discussed it at Salesnet and realized that our CRM solution could be customized to help make this process more efficient and easier to manage." Lynn Madderra, Salesnet.

Earlier this year, Salesnet donated an account to the Half Hour Hero program and launched an online sign-up site. Now, when volunteers sign-up, their profile is automatically stored in Salesnet and notifications are sent out to the coordinator and staff at the school. The reduction in paperwork handling and communication overhead allows the volunteer-student matching to occur quickly so the child can get the assistance they need. "The online signup has made things much easier for volunteers to sign-up and now we have a process that we can pass on year to year to make sure the program remains strong." Salesnet realizes that there are many meaningful ways that companies can be socially responsible. It’s not always best or most effective to simply donate funds. "We have always felt that sharing our expertise, software or experience, is a great way to assist our local organizations. It gives us an opportunity to really understand their needs and get creative in providing them a solution that they previously might not have been able to afford." Scott Farmer, Salesnet.
