158,000 new jobs were added to the private sector in October, with significant gains in the advertising industry.

In the month of October, 158,000 new jobs were added to the economy according to the ADP. The payroll processor released it’s October report on Thursday that evaluated the private sector and it’s job growth. This falls right in line with the numbers compiled by AdvertisingCrossing.com, which showed a slight increase in jobs between August and September.

In fact, the site recorded a .93-percent increase in job postings with 6,865 listings in August and 7,696 listings in September. The slight increase in available positions isn’t breaking any records but it is a positive sign that things are moving in the right direction. Any upward trend in the number of available jobs is desirable at this point.

The ADP compiles data from private payrolls and has been known to be inaccurate when compared to the Labor Department’s numbers, often much higher or lower than the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s report. However, it recently announced it has changed its data collection methods to improve accuracy. For instance, in September, the ADP reported 162,000 new jobs but a revision under the new data collection method showed only 114,000. In the future, such discrepancies between the ADP and BLS can be avoided.

AdvertisingCrossing.com is generally positive about the current state of the economy, specifically the advertising industry. “Though there are normal fluctuations in job numbers on the site, we have noticed a steady rise in listings over the past several months,” says A. Harrison Barnes, owner and CEO of the site. “There are always people out there that need to search jobs listings and we’ve seen the economy meet those needs in the advertising industry.”

Though individual industries may fluctuate, the general thrust of the economy is upward at the moment. This is further evidenced by the recent Employment Situation Report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While there was a 0.1-percent increase in unemployment, the total number of jobs added to the economy increased.
