Viamede Resort (http://www.viamede.com/), located on the shores of Stoney Lake, in the heart of the Kawarthas, is hosting several arts classes. From beads to carving, Viamede's hand-picked artists will show resort guests the trade secrets, and will send them home with a souvenir.

Artists include Michael Fortune, one of Canada's best-known custom furniture designers, and Ralph Ingleton, a well-known sculptor based a short canoe ride from the resort.

Several artists will be focusing on a Christmas theme. Gail West, known as "The English Potter," will be helping guests with making Christmas ornaments from clay. David Hickey, a multi-talented artist, will be focusing his first workshop on wood block printing, which will allow guests to make prints, either for Christmas cards or simply whatever they would like.
The courses are designed to be an excellent introduction for beginners, and will focus on success for everyone. "I want people to go home with a sense of accomplishment," owner Ben Sämann says. "Not everyone is a born artist, but each of us has it in us to create something we, ourselves, like."

The arts and crafts are popular at Viamede. The walls are lined with local artists, alongside historic photos. Several quilt guilds make Viamede their annual retreat, often bringing other crafts along. "And the resort itself is surrounded by hundreds of artists" adds Sämann.
