Poet-Playwright Rod Oneglia amuses and entertains fanatics with his first literary work of humor, T'Was The Night Before Hanukkah. In this book, the author weaves together elements of the Jewish Festival of Lights and folkloric figures of the Christian Christmas into one colorful tapestry. Readers will surely find entertainment at its best through this little book.
The book introduces its endearing comic character, Hyman Hanukkah - an imp with features that rival any wonder of the world including Barbra Streisand - and who captivates from first glance. It describes his sleigh - a gold Cadillac Eldorado convertible with Dade County plates. It wittily makes reference to Miami's famed Eden Roc Hotel, the Operation in Entebbe Uganda, the Israeli Armed Forces and the Olympics. It mentions—but not endorses - designer brands for tensile rib capri pants, stretch cotton camisoles, make-up and jewelry. It even throws in Maniscewitz and roll mops, gefelte and noodle kugel and whet's the reader's appetite for fun and laughter.
With its familiar title, this bright, contemporary book brings to mind Tim Burton's musical fantasy horror film "The Nightmare Before Christmas". However, this work goes beyond pastiche and carves for Oneglia a reputation as a multi-talented, multi-genre artist. With this irresistibly enjoyable book, Oneglia seems to have every trick up his sleeve to charm any reader.
Warm and witty, sometimes rythmic or rhyming, with conversational tone and ease of style, T'Was The Night Before Hanukkah is a runaway best seller. Readers will have no need for kvetching out loud. What more could they ask for? Everyone will want to give or get this book for a holiday gift. This is religious tradition, poem, belly laughs, food, lifestyle and holiday fun. All packed in one little book.
