Hospital admissions for heart attacks, strokes and respiratory diseases such as asthma have significantly fallen since the smoking ban was introduced. Heart attacks fell by 15%, strokes by 16% and those for respiratory diseases by 24%.
The study which is the largest to date, found the more stringent and stronger the law, the higher the health benefits. Countries that strongly enforced the law and included places like restaurants, workplaces and bars showed the highest health benefits. The American Heart Association Journal published the study showing and explaining how 45 countries were surveyed worldwide including the likes of the United States of America, New Zealand and Germany. The study confirms previous beliefs that smoking bans result in a decrease in cardiac and lung problems. In 2007, the Department of Health found that heart attacks in the UK dropped by 10%, the same year that the smoking ban was introduced.
Maureen Talbot, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation commented, ‘Restrictions on smoking in public can help smokers to cut down or quit as well as reducing our exposure to second hand smoke. This study provides encouraging data about the benefits of a smoke-free environment on our hearts health and shows that the right decision was made five years ago.’
Nicolites hope that as more and more become aware of the benefits of quitting or cutting down on traditional cigarettes, many will make the switch over to electronic cigarettes. The smokeless cigarettes are not applicable to the smoking ban and do not contain the same cancer causing chemicals as traditional types do.
Nicolites is now the leading and most widely available brand of electric cigarette in the UK; they have formed business partnerships with many of the largest retailers to bring these wonderful innovations right on to the doorstep of every person in the country. Established in late 2007, Nicolites has grown into a multi-million pound company with international distribution networks and continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.
