Hurricane Sandy’s damage to the eastern seaboard will result in a need for enormous amounts of reconstruction and will also result in a fair share of construction related claims. Construx Solutions opens its doors in time to help guide them through the process.

Construction industry veterans opened the doors on Construx Solutions, a results-focused consulting firm, months before Hurricane Sandy ravaged the Altantic coast and has set about making recovery as smooth as possible for their clients.

Construx focuses much of their business on risk management, program management and claims support, three areas that will be crucial throughout the entire rebuilding process.

“Disasters like Hurricane Sandy present many distinct challenges surrounding the construction industry,” explained Michael Pink, co-founder of the firm. “First, there will be a huge clean up and rebuilding effort on-going for many years to come, and it is imperative that strong processes are in place within the state agencies to monitor construction costs. Second, insurance companies will be inundated with claims related to cost and damages to both on-going construction projects and buildings that need to be completely re-built. It will be necessary for these claims to be reviewed for accuracy and legitimacy before any insurance money is issued, which is another challenge since time is of the essence for everyone. Finally, privately held companies will begin to receive insurance funding in the near future to rebuild. Each will face challenges in managing their respective projects both from a cost and time standpoint – not to mention the competitive landscape that will evolve in the Northeast resulting from the demand to find quality contractors and tradesmen to perform the work.”

“One of the wild cards that companies have to deal with is insurance. Claims will be through the roof after Sandy, and it is likely that not all will be paid out. All of these claims will be backed up for months, making it hard to predict revenue,” he said, “But we have seen these types of challenges before and can help our clients get results.”

Although there will be a uphill battle that the entire Northeast faces, Pink claims “There is no doubt in my mind the people of New York, New Jersey and the surrounding areas will band together and will weather this storm” and further explains, “I am from New York and spent most of my career up there working in this capacity. I understand the way construction works up there and will do everything I can to help make this a smooth process.”
